I looked at the three dimmer switches in the wiring document and they all look exactly the same. None match what I have - that's where my confusion is.
I don't know how to make those photos bigger, but they are pages Z59, Z60 and Z66.

The wiring diagrams are incorrect for the S5 harness. I've looked at my own paper copy of the '89 FSM, which includes the wiring diagram, and the online versions of the '88 and '91 wiring diagrams. The pin-outs all show the dimmer switch connector as being the same but this is obviously not the case. The only place I found that clearly shows the difference is in the "Body Electrical" section of the FSM, not in the wiring diagrams. The "Body Electrical" section doesn't give wire colors but it gives the wire function, which can then be used in conjunction with the wiring diagram to determine what wires go where. The trick is knowing how the connector is being referenced (front or back).

Do you still have the original '89 sub-harness to reference?
