I am confused as to what the diff would have to do with your speedo. On my 10AE, at least, the speedo was connected in at the rear of the trans.

My first thought would be - if you have trans fluid getting into the speedo cable and is being pushed into the cluster, then you have a venting problem in the trans. But I need more info.

I have seen similar issues on E38 7series. The coolant temp sensor fails internally and allows coolant to be pumped into the DME (ecu). That's a fun conversation telling a customer that a coolant leak caused them to have to buy a $1500 DME.
