power steering issue?
Power steering starting making a little noise and sometimes doesn't work right away when starting the car. problems started after I changed the short hose between the pump and the fill tank. fluid acts like it needs to be bled (kinda bubbly and tries to overflow when turning wheel. I have now installed a different pump with the exact same issues as my previous pump. I have also tried jacking the front tires off the ground and with car running turned wheels several times with no effect.
Any ideas?

That's easy... pull all that stuff out and loop the lines. You don't need it

You need to bleed the pump by turning lock to lock slowly several times. Sometimes it doesn't clear up for a while. It took forever to bleed the 626's system after changing everything but the rack.
Either keep at it, or return the pump and go manual. Chicks dig Popeye forearms ![]()

Obvious that it is caused by air in the lines because that is what you did to it and two pumps acting the same.

Power Steering
Sounds like the system needs to be bled.

After talking to a few local people, it seems as if it may be time for a new rack. possibly pulling in air. I've tried the bleeding methods offered of turning wheels lock to lock, and jacking in the air with motor off and turning lock to lock. Could the rack really be the issue?

Have you found any leaks? Check the hose you replaced. I replaced all my hoses, and the hoses to the plastic tank required extra care in clamping. The problem was that the replacement hose (3/8" to the pump and 1/2" inlet IIRC) were not exact matches for the OEM hose. I placed an extra clamp on each of these hoses, right next the the bead on the end of the pipe. That fixed it. One way to check for a leak is to feel the bottom of the P/S fluid tank. If either of those hoses are leaking, the bottom of the tank will be wet. P/S leaks look suspiciously like oil leaks, so you need to take some time to find out where it leaks. Yes, my P/S used to leak. |

Turns out the issue was definately the rack, Put the new remanufactured one in yesterday with new return hoses and everything appears to back to normal. Thanks for everyones input.
