OP, those auto retractible mirrors you speak of...I'm not sure how "auto" you're talking about, but almost all cars in Japan have mirrors that pull in at the press of a button. It's rare in the US, but in Japan it's quite common.

i wish they had them for the fc. lets take this thread to a new level. anybody got pics of the stuff there talkin about?

I would imagine the FCs in Japan DO have them. Might want to talk to someone over there about getting you some. Of course you'll also have to run some wiring to make it work, but it's worth it haha. That's one of the little things I miss from living there.

it's probably not rare but, my 87 base didn't have the bins. it had thin pieces of wood covering the holes. the carpet covered everthing.

Mine had 1 bin and 1 carpet covered area with the shitty wood cover. I switched it out for two bins...
