The hatch light could be the switch on the actual latch is loose or mis-adjusted.

When I was experiencing the idiot cluster fading in and out, I decided to re solder it, but as I was pulling it out (key on/ clock on) every time I would pull the cluster a certain direction (it was still connected to the harness) the clock would dim then brighten.
So, I took the cluster out (re soldered it too) but I used a sewing needle to "tweak" the female pins on the male connector (body harness side) to make a tighter connection. Everything seems to work perfectly now.
