New users (v4.0 BASE):

Once you have downloaded the newest firmware and APManager, go the MazdaManiac Calibration download area and acquire the proper base calibration for your application.
To verify your proper application, follow the "install" directions below up to the point where the AccessPORT identifies your vehicle. Use the proper calibration based on what the AccessPORT tells you - NOT what you believe your model to be. The AccessPORT asks the car's PCM to identify itself, so it knows best what model to use for calibration purposes. Link:

There is only ONE file for your particular model. If your car has larger injectors or a non-standard MAF pipe or MAF mounting location, follow the e-mail link below in the "11 Deadly Questions" section, provide the requested information and a specialized base calibration will be provided.

Once you have acquired the proper base calibration for your model, follow these instructions exactly:

Quote:
1) If your AccessPORT is currently installed, uninstall your AccessPORT from your car by following the uninstall directions provided by the AccessPORT menu uninstall option.
2) Remove ALL existing calibrations from your AccessPORT using the AP Manager software. You can save them on your computer if you like for future reference.
3) Update the AccessPORT firmware using the AccessPORT Updater downloaded above.
4) UnZIP the new MazdaManiac base calibration that and move it to the AP Manager and then onto your AccessPORT using the AP Manager software.
5) Install the new Base Calibration on your RX-8's PCM using the install menu option on the AccessPORT. If your AccessPORT identifies your model differently than the selection you have made from the above link, you will not be able to install the new base calibration. Please Contact MazdaManiac with the information presented on the installation screen about your particular model RX-8 if it is different than that which you provided when ordering your calibration.
6) Start your RX-8, bring it to operating temperature and drive it carefully for a few minutes. On boosted applications, avoid going into manifold pressures above 2 or 3 PSI until after you have completed the procedure. For the purposes of the Calibration Service, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO OBSERVE ANY DISPLAYED PARAMETERS AT THIS TIME (though you may, if you choose to do so). Allow your RX-8 to cool for at least 8 hours and repeat this drive cycle again, allowing the engine to cool completely before proceeding.

If your RX-8 will not run/idle, please uninstall the AccessPORT and contact MazdaManiac using the provided e-mail link below in the "11 Deadly Questions" section.
If you have a boosted application, avoid the boosted ranges to the best of your ability until after you have received your customized calibration.
After performing the two drive cycles, your RX-8 will be ready to provide the required data-log feedback the MazdaManiac for further customization and tuning.

Please read THIS PAGE on Data-Logging from Cobb before proceeding.

Perform the following data-log procedure:

Quote:
1) Plug your AccessPORT into the RX-8 and start the car. Allow it to warm up thoroughly.
2) Select "Monitor" from the menu options. Press the "OK" button.
3) Select "Set Data Log List" from the "Monitor" menu. Press the "OK" button.
4) check ONLY the following option check-boxes:
  • Equiv. Ratio
  • Engine Load
  • Long Term FT1
  • Mass Airflow
  • RPM
  • Short Term FT1
  • Vehicle Speed

5) Press the "Back" button then press the "OK" button.
6) Select "Data Log" from the "Monitor" menu. Press the "OK" button
7) Press the "OK" button again to start the data-log.
8) After approximately 10 seconds, Press the "OK" button again to stop the data-log. You have just created your first data-log of the engine's idle performance.
9) Take your RX-8 to a safe section of relatively flat highway where you can get the vehicle up to 4200 RPM for several miles at a time without being disturbed. On manual transmission-equipped vehicles, this will be performed in 4th gear. On 4-speed automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, this will be performed in 2nd gear. On 6-speed automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, this will be performed in 4th gear.
10) Once you are up to 4200 RPM, turn on your A/C, headlamps and rear defroster and set the cruise control to hold your speed. On vehicles with no cruise control, hold the vehicle speed as constant as you can with the gas pedal.
11) Press the "OK" button again to start the data-log and continue to cruise for a minimum of 30 seconds.
12) Press the "OK" button again to stop the log and return to your starting location.
You can now download these two data-logs that you have created using the "Advanced View" menu (ctrl-D) in the AP Manager. They will be saved as Microsoft Excel files.
Send an e-mail using THIS LINK, attach the two data-log files you have just created (one at idle and one at a steady cruise) as well as the actual calibration you downloaded and used for these logs and provide the answers to these questions:

The "11 Deadly Questions"

3) E-mail address you used when purchasing your AccessPORT
4) Year of manufacture of your RX-8 (as reported on the AccessPORT install screen)
5) Model (M/T, A/T)
6) Location (USDM-California or Federal, EUDM, AUDM, JDM, etc.)
7) Induction (normally aspirated, turbo, supercharger)
8) Fuel injectors (if different from stock)
9) MAF/intake setup (custom, MazSport, OE, GReddy, etc.)
10) Other relevant mods (ignition, oiling, exhaust, etc.)
11) AccessPORT Serial Number (from the back of your AccessPORT)

You will should receive a confirmation within 48 hours of your submission.
Provided you have followed the directions correctly, you should receive an adjusted calibration within 5 days (business days, Monday through Friday) after receiving your confirmation e-mail.

NOTE:
These are BASE CALIBRATIONS. They provide NO PERFORMANCE BENEFIT over stock and are designed ONLY for the purpose of collecting data for proper calibration of your particular car.
For those with boosted applications, the calibrations will provide enormous amounts of fuel in the boosted ranges and will probably run poorly at above-atmospheric manifold pressures.
If you have a boosted application with larger-than-stock fuel injectors (especially in the primary position), or if you have a non-standard MAF pipe, there is a good chance these will not operate your vehicle at all.

ON BOOSTED APPLICATIONS – IF YOU OBSERVE EQUIVALENCE RATIOS (AFR) ABOVE 12.5 AT MANIFOLD PRESSURES OVER 3 PSI OR HEAR AUDIBLE RATTLE OR KNOCK, IMMEDIATELY RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL AND DO NOT ATTEMPT ANOTHER WOT PASS UNTIL CONTACTING MAZDAMANIAC!

11) Press the "OK" button again to start the data-log and continue to cruise for a minimum of 30 seconds.
12) Press the "OK" button again to stop the log.
13) Again, on a safe section of open, flat highway, lower your RPMs to 3000 in 2nd gear (1st gear on the 4-speed automatic).
14) Press the "OK" button again to start the data-log and accelerate at WOT to redline.
15) Release the gas pedal and allow the vehicle to slow and your RPMs to drop and switch to 3rd gear (2nd gear on the 4-speed automatic).
16) When your RPMs have dropped to 3500, once again accelerate at WOT to redline or to the highest safe speed you can attain.
17) Press the "OK" button again to stop the log and return to your starting location.

You can now download these three data-logs that you have created using the "Advanced View" menu (ctrl-D) in the AP Manager. They will be saved as Microsoft Excel files.
Send an e-mail using THIS LINK, attach the three data-log files you have just created (one at idle, one at a steady cruise adn one at WOT) as well as the actual calibration you downloaded and used for these logs.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ATTACH THESE 4 FILES OR YOUR CALIBRATION SUBMISSION WILL BE REJECTED!

Then, provide the answers to these questions:
