Jackstand /Project Car ROTM Nominations!
I had a request for this and I thought I would give it a shot as I come up with a lineup for the 2010 ROTM.
If you have a project car running or not, jack stands or concrete blocks let's nominate your ride. This will be open for all years of rotaries and you must have a description of why your purchased the car, what you are planning for the car, the timeframe in which you want to have it done. I will also need at least 3 quality photos of the Interior, Exterior, and engine bay. If you car is in pieces then you can submit the 3 best photos you can. You may also provide a link to additional photos. This will be limited to the 1st 10 people who meet all the requirements stated above. Nominations will end in one week. Thanks for participating!

OK, I'll give this a shot. haha
I've always want an 93-95 Rx7 FD. Way before the "import scene" really picked up. I simply never had the cash to pick one up in the 90's. In the early years of this past decade, I found it hard to find a FD priced resonably for a project car. In 2003 I bought my first wankel powered vehicle. SS 04 RX-8 in Waipahu, HI. After years of owning it I simple grew more insistant on getting the FD I've always wanted. When I ran across the first good deal on an FD I picked it up right away. Knowing I was going to rebuild it from the ground up I wasn't too concerned with the condition it was in. The previous owner never replaced the fuel lines that were recalled and they cracked while in operation and caused an engine fire. Warning: Pictures may be graphic in nature! ![]() ![]() ![]() Current plans and items that are in the works: The engine is currently being rebuilt by Arizona Rotary Rockets(AZRR) in Phoenix, AZ. Street Port, single GT4088 turbo, PFC, 50mm turbosmart Race port BOV, 45mm turbosmart external Wastegate, and a few other goodies. ![]() ![]() Interior is going to be stripped and redone. Seats are getting replaced as well as the tan(trashed) floor carpet. Considering replacement hood options at this time as well as a nice flowing body kit(not wide body) and paint colors. ![]() ![]() Current time of completion will be the end of this Feb for the motor. Over all car completion? I dont honestly think I'll ever get done tinkering with it, but It should be at next year's Seven Stock! ![]() Last edited by BurnVktm; 01-09-2010 at 05:01 PM. |

I'll enter my 86 base project car:
I've always wanted a rust-free FC to slowly build into something awesome over time. This is the starting point ![]() ![]() Here's how it looked right when we got it home. 82,xxx miles, blown n/a motor. ![]() Interior is pretty dern clean (or was, at least. Now it has tools and stuff lying around everywhere.): ![]() ![]() Here's the engine and trans coming out. It was effed; ruined rear rotor and housing due to apex seal failure and it was severely overheated, so pretty much everything is junk. ![]() After that, I decided to pull the entire front suspension and subframe, to have the subframe powdercoated and replace all the suspension bushings. Haven't gotten around to it (yet) ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's where it sits now (front suspension is on basically 'finger-tight' to allow rolling around): ![]() For now, my current goal is to get it 5-lugged, and get a running engine in it. I'm currently shooting to get an S5 n/a motor in it, with electrically controlled aux ports and VDI. I hope to have that stuff done by summer, maybe. Ultimately, I want to do a ton of stuff to it, over a long period of time (I plan on having it as long as possible. Ideally forever, but when's the last time that worked out for anyone ![]() Future plans include: -TII swap -BNR stage 2 or 3 -RTek 2.1 Then -standalone -big turbo (likely GT35R, or whatever it's equivalent is that far in the future) -possibly half-bridge 13Bt with even bigger turbo Later -REW swap, possibly with functioning twins As far as exterior goes, I'd really like to do subtle 30mm widebody all around with Shine Auto ventless front fenders, and their matching rear overfenders. Compliment that with some nice Work or Volk wheels or something. None of that stretch tire hellaflush shit either. Just enough to bring the edge of the rim out the the fender lip without jutting out with retarded camber. Then a re-spray in the stock color. And, yes, the S4 bumpers and black trim are here to stay ![]() who knows. ![]()

Mazda RX-7 Turbo II
Bought car as a replacement of my S5 vert, which gave me heaps of trouble. 148,000 miles, rebuilt engine at some point (had great compression when bought, current compression unknown, ![]() Right now I'm replacing the clutch, swapping out the turbo for an S5 unit, and cleaning the fuel tank in preparation to drop a walbro 255lph fuel pump in it. I will have some current pics of the car tomorrow in the daylight. ![]()

Here's my project FD.
Had the car a little over 2.5 years now and its spending the winter in my garage on jackstands. The goal is to be driving again before summer. I have most of the parts now but progress is slow due to limited time and that I am not really a mechanic or even have a car-guy background and have to learn things as I go. Originally got into FDs by way of the RX8. I have a supercharged RX8 too and both my wife and I fell in love with the FD's we saw in the local Arizona Rotary Car Club drives/events and caravans every year to Sevenstock. I have a build thread with more pictures: http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...ead.php?t=9362 Interior wise, seats will be replaced with red Brides, steering wheel with aftermarket Nardi w/red stitch, syn-suede gauge hood covering, leather w/red stitching on center console, Spirit-R red stitch shift knob, E-brake, red trim floor mats, and re-dyed Spirit-R grey interior plastics. Exterior will have CF side skirts, CF brake ducts, CF diffuser, and CF rear-spoiler center on a otherwise 99'spec spoiler. Feed vented hood (painted white) and burnout front nose, and all exterior lamps tinted a tad darker. Also new black Enkei RPF1 wheels, wider tires, and lowered stance. Engine will have single-turbo conversion to a BorgWarner S366 and am retaining the PFS SMIC but adding to it a SPAL fan and water mister. All visible parts powdered coated wrinkle black except for glossy/obnoxious red on the IC end tanks, water pump, and throttle body. Arizona Rotary Rockets turbo manifold and Xcessive LIM w/6 YawPower injectors + Bosch 044 pump + CJM fuel rails and Turbosmart FPR. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'll play. Recently acquired FD as she sits now. Thanks again to Tray and Rico!
Plan include but not limited to a full rotisserie style restoration. Meaning she'll be stripped down to a bare shell where not one nut, bolt or ewven wire will remain. I'll be strengthening the jackpoints, dealing with any undercarriage rot issue that may arise, priming the entire car then undercoating the car with a p/u truck bedline ![]() Then all the fab begins. Things that I know that I'll be building are a VMIC setup, I might incorporate a W2A precooler, various strut tower/firewall braces, rear tripoint brace, undercarriage braces, fender braces, etc etc. I'm sure there will be a million other little things as well. After the fab is done, the wiring will be gone through, relocate the battery, strip everything uneeded out, add what's needed in, stereo, lighting, fuel pump relays etc etc and then rewrapping everything with new split loom and self malgamating tape..... the tape that only sticks to itself ![]() Then it's onto a full paint job. Haven't decided on the color, I'm torn between black, or the really dark BMW or Ferrari silvers. Nothing fancy on the outside, '93 bumper and R1 lip, CarbonCreation sides, Shineauto REA replica rear diffuser, new MS hood, shave all the badges and power antenna and keyholes, probably a 93 wing as well. Wheels will be Work VSXX or similar in 18's. Interior will be completely redone as well in black with some silver/AL accents. No twin triple gauge pods though. Need to get intouch with MoTeC and AIM and see if there is a display that I can mount in the second din for some more info displays. At most I'll be doing two gauges where the climate control lived and relocating those elsewhere. Interior will be simple and functional and most importantly - CLEAN. Big stereo too I'm sure, not that big, all Alpine with some components front, mids rear, single 12" sub, and of course, my favorite PDX-5 Amp/ Suspension will be completely gone through including all new bushings and adjustable links whereever possible. Undecided on C/O's or a stock type replacement. Going with a ported, portmatched, polished and ceramic coated 13B-RE with similar mods to the one I have in the FC. The ports won't be AS large though. If my frankensteined 6-spd trans works in the FC, I'll be running the same trans in the FD. Stock Torsen rear with the stock 4.1 gears. MoTeC M820 of course, stockISH dash, but I need to get more info that what's provided. Still working on the solution for that. Turbo is a secret for now. I can say that it hasn't been done as of yet, or that I've seen on a rotary. Looking for 450-500 RWHP though with excellent low-end torque ![]() ![]() So, here is how she sits now and will remain until the FC is ready for DGRRX. At which time the two will switch parking spots ![]()

This is something everybody can get in on, lol. I only wish I had taken pics of 2gslse's FB project, it'd be a shoe in!
I'll toss mine up there because lets face it, I've got another year to get the official FC of the month and to steal the DGRR FC win from Brian, lol! I have owned my FC since 2000. My family has always been into RX7s so I guess thats why I got into it. Back in 2002 the original NA engine blew. I spent the next two years swapping it to a T2. That motor was junk, so I ended up getting a rebuilt T2 streetported engine. After installing it, I wasn't super pleased with how the rest of the car stacked up. I decided it was best off to fully restore the car and have something to keep for years to come. I started restoring it in 2006 and thats where it is now. The front clip is almost together. The plans are to complete the 13B RE single turbo swap, finish the body work/paint to completely change the color over to Innocent Blue Mica and restore the interior to a nice black tone (opposed to the oh so popular blue that many S4 cars have). Everything I've done with the restoration has been time consuming, but worth it. Every nut/bolt/washer is being addressed. Things get cleaned, polished, painted, rust protected, etc no matter what. This car will NOT be a trailer queen though as so many have told me it will be. I plan to complete it late this year to have a good season of HPDE and Circuitcross! Looking forward to have it at DGRRXI! Some pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Updated pics coming soon as I fix my busted camera ![]() more pics and full build thread: http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...read.php?t=267 (yes, I'm whoring my thread out, need to catch up to Brians!!) |

Looks good so far Bill. Your FC looks like a carbon copy of what mine was. SE, Arctic Blue Mettalic, AC/PS/Sunroof were the only options. Your floor looks exactely like the floor I had at my old house, MuscleGloss epoxy floor by chance thread pimp? Keep up the good work Bill, I wanna see this girl done soon. If my FD is done before your FC there will be problems ![]()

Thanks guys!
Brian - I didn't know your SE was originally arctic blue as well... this is getting too weird. Same year, same options, same color, same motor swap. The floor is actually just two coats of rustoleum's floor epoxy with off the shelf flake from lowe's, lol. |
