ignition coils

So other day I had the car running put brand new ignition coils in my 85 rx7 couldnt get the oem stock ones so I used coils for. A 80s gmc truck that had the same setup and ran just fine idled and everything. Did a little more work on it today and when I tried to hop in and crank it there was no spark again... only thing I can think of is the guy before me has a direct line running from the ignition coils to the battery constantly drawing power not sure if it would make them go out like that or not since I disconnect the battery when im not out working on stuff but I was considering running it into a switch under the dash to regulate the power. Would that hookup cause the ignition coils to blow in that sence or is wiring a switch in a waste of time? Im convinced its the culprit but theres no one in this town that will help me work on it! Help!!
