AZRR Build
Hello all,
New to the rotary scene. I bought my dream car 94 FD after my old chevy truck died. Had a little over 150,000 miles onto it with the original motor. I just needed a daily driver to get me to work and back. Nothing flashy or crazy fast. I bought a 94 FD with under 60,000 miles on it. Thought it was a low mileage car that was going to last me a little bit before i had to put any money into it. BTW didn't do any research on the car and that was a big mistake. I bought it from a older lady that was the original owner. This was her baby and I knew it was well taken care of. She all her records of what was done to the car. Two file folders full of everything that down to every oil change. So I didn't think there was going to be any problem with the car. I bought it in Phoenix AZ and drove it to Tucson. It was a 142 mile trip that ended badly. I just filled up the car at the gas station close to my house and was going to go home when the car stuttered and started to smoke real bad. I pulled over and tried to figure out what was going on. Again didn't know anything about turbo cars let alone rotaries. So I ended up calling for a tow back. Made it 1/2 way home and the chain fell off the car for the second time. I was tired and just wanted to get home so i drove it the rest of the way home. About a mile. The car was smoking so bad that one of the local cops followed me home. He thought the car was on fire and made sure everything was ok. He had pulled me over before and wanted to check out my motorcycle collection. I have about 12 bikes and race at a local track. That is why i don't need a fast or flashy car. So I talked to one of my good friends and he told me that the turbo was probably broken and that i would need a new one. He told me that he had one and would install it for me. It was going to take him to long so he told me about a local shop that would do it. That is where it sits today. Glen at Arizona Rotary Rockets has the car and it is going to be a beast when it is done. Turbine on the turbo separated and exploded going though the motor. It was going to be a quick turbo swap and turned into this.... Here is the build of the car. I think that is most of the work. The car has been down scene January some time and should been done around February. I got sent overseas and told the shop they have a year to build the car. BTW great shop and very understanding. Sometimes they tell me what I don't want to hear but they don't lie to me or bullshit me. We are hoping to hit around 500 rwhp at 23 psi but around 320 rwhp at 8 psi for daily driving. The first pics are when I got the car home. |

Man that's a really clean FD. That really sucks for the car to already go on you before you even got it home, but when she up and running again it'll be worth every minute of waiting.

I hope it is going to be a monster Brent. When I first started the project they said it was just a quick
turbo swap. I got some reliability mods for the car and then they torn into her. Found out that the motor needed a rebuild so we planed on twins for now and down the road a single. Glen at AZRR came across a good and cheap single kit and told me about it. That is when the fun started. Every time I talk to Glen I have more to add to the project. I dont think he wanted to do the project in the beginning but with the build the way it is going the car will look clean but will have the power to back it up. I am glad that I found a good rotary shop around and they are honest and very thou row. The car has been down for a long time but that is fine with me because I cant drive the car until I get back from my tour over in korea. I haven't rushed the car and that lets the shop work on other higher priority cars and lets them put the time they want and need into my car. It also lets them find the best parts for the build. |

about yoru tires, why not go wider int he rear? 245 for a 10.5 rim is really streching it, i would go 275 or 285 for a better fit and more grip.

I want a little stretch on the tire. Densetsu helped me pick the tire. I want something stable in the corners.
I am also getting a set of drag radials for the car when i really want to run it. I am getting out of the AF in april but I bought a house in Sahaurita. I will be going to school when i get out. I know about azrx7 and I am a member. I was stationed at DM where did you work? I worked in the 57th a-10's new c model. And yes the joy of owning a rotary. |

Glen said that the motor is almost done and on the stand so i should have some pics of the
motor build up by the end of next week. Here are some pics of the wheels. I talked to one of the shops about powder coating the wheels but they havent gotten back to me so i think i am going to keep them the same color. I wanted to paint them gold but it is to much work to get a hold of the shop. |

keep the rims that way, nothign wrong with a bit of chome jsut as long as its not ghetto bling..
I was never in the military, i was just asking..I just picked up some et slicks also, so we should hit the track when you and the car get back.. What hp are you shooting for? I made 500rwhp on the dynopac, so about 550rwhp on a dynojet with pump and water.

I raced out at arroyo for three races with my 04 GSXR 600. Some endurance races and some team sprints and i think i made two races before i crashed and destroyed the bike. I want to go back and see what the car can do on the road course. What the car was built to do anyways. I know rodger the track owner and he is a real cool guy. Glen at AZRR told me that it will come close to 500 at the dyno in tucson. I should have some new pics up of the motor install. Just waiting on the shop to send them to me.
