I use OEM filters, I can't see any reason not to.

Purolator filters is pretty much the only thing I put on any cars. I am running Castrol 10w-30 for break-in, but will switch to mobil1 15w-50 after a couple thousand miles.

cewrx7r1 is on a distinguished road
The original FD filter was larger than today's Mazda one size fits all filter.
It had more filter area which would have less back pressure.

I use one of the best made filters made to the original size:

Purolator PureOne Oil Filter, PL14459,
ht = 2.95", wt = 3.15", anti drain back
