cat back prep and a product q
Hey guys just got a call from the muffler shop and they said my 3inch catback is ready for fitment. And after a few weeks of working 14hour days I finally have the $$ to start some upgrades. My car is a 90 gtu with the tii swap and only has a cold air intake so far. I know with the soon to be catback there will be some boost issues and as soon as the car gets back its going to sit for a week or so, that way I can finish my fiberglass project. While it sits I'm going to have the wastegate ported and install a fcd and mbc. Will that set up be safe untill I can afford to get a safc to tune it better?. Also what's better, the afc- neo r the safc 2, I've read mixed results about each?

definitely need a FCD... a MBC will help build boost a little faster but it will still most likely fall off in high RPM. Depending on what your goals (or future goals) are, you might want to look into an Rtek. Performs the functions of an FCD and also provides other benefits like timing retard about 9psi, can handle larger injectors, etc. (so for a little extra you get a little extra)

I was looking at them a while back but few people on 7club could answer my questions without being pricks. There where a few who answered my first question but fell off after that. So would the rteck still need a fuel computer if i went the 2.x route? My goal for now is to run about 10psi on the stock turbo, thbat should hold me over untill I have the cash to upgrade the whole turbo.

^Agreed. I've been running an Rtek 2.x on my S5 T2 since this past February and am very happy with it, given my limited mods (BNR Stage 1 turbo upgrades, 720cc injectors in all 4 holes, Supra TT Denso fuel pump, RB/Borla exhaust system).
Don't let hunting down a compatible Palm device scare you away - the old low-tech monochrome display palm m100 models with a couple of extra hot-synch cables can be had from a number of online resellers (new or refurb) for under $40 delivered. These work fine for tuning/logging, and since I don't use the palm for anything else, it's good enough for me. |

Easy is a relative term, but the Rtek is pretty straight forward to work with. I would recommend working with an experienced tuner, preferably on a dyno where AFRs can be monitored while tuning to dial it in just right.
But getting started is simple - you get into the initial setup menu, check the boxes to match your car's FI setup (e.g., 550/550s, 550/720s, 720/720s). Assuming you're running the stock turbo at close-to-stock boost levels (say 10psi or less), and your fuel system is up to the task (good pump, correct fuel pressure and known/tested injectors) do nothing else with the Rtek and you're up & running with a safe map, and no more fuel cut headaches. |

One other thing about these older Palm's & Rtek - to load the Rtek pocketlogger software and hotsync your palm, you'll need a PC that has an RS232 serial port to use with it. If you have nothing but newer PCs, that may be a problem since most made today don't include RS232 ports anymore. I'm using a circa-2005 Dell desktop PC to talk to the palm m100.
